Jac Jemc teaches creative writing at UC San Diego and was a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow in Fiction. She is the author of three novels and two collections of stories. Her most recent novel Empty Theatre (MCD x FSG 2023) received starred reviews in Kirkus and Booklist and was featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition and named a finalist for the California Book Award.

Her story collection False Bingo (MCD x FSG Originals 2019) won the Chicago Review of Books Award. Jac serves as Faculty Director of the Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers’ Workshop. Founded in 1968, Clarion is the longest running workshop of its kind. Instructors and alumni are among the most respected writers and editors working in the field today, establishing it as the premier proving ground for writers of speculative fiction.
